Cheddar and Bacon flavoured Scones

Makes 12 scones

You will need

225g self-raising flour

2 tsp baking powder

Good Pinch Mustard powder

55g Unsalted, vegan butter

55g Grated vegan cheddar cheese

1 spring onion, finely chopped

3 teaspoons of Herby Hog Smoky Bacon flavoured Seasoning

150ml Plant based milk (we recommend oat or soya)


  1. Pre heat the oven to 180°C/365°F
  2. Sieve all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  3. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles a fine crumb. Mix in the spring onion.
  4. Add the cheese keeping back some to sprinkle on top of the scones
  5. Pour the milk into the mixture and work it together until reaching a dropping consistency. If the mixture is too stiff, add a little more milk. Knead the dough gently.
  6. Roll out the scone dough to around 2.5cm thickness. Cut out roundels or cut into equal triangle shapes and place on a well-greased baking tray.
  7. Brush the top of each scone with milk, sprinkle with the remaining cheese and finely dust with more Bacon seasoning.
  8. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or until the scones are golden brown

Top Tips

Enjoy as a quick lunch with various fillings, such as vegan cream cheese and cucumber, or sliced tomatoes and crisp lettuce.

These scones also make a great alternative to bread when served warm with soups.
